idiot songs

unrelenting frictions from a republican living room.

sometimes you just need one.

I wrote this ‘song’ called “Company Of Men” that appeared on Envy On The Coast’s Lowcountry record. Originally, I wrote it as an idea that was only half done, to see if everyone liked it enough to include it in the body of work that would be considered for the record. Our producer, Sean, saw it differently. He liked the idea as a short weird thing because to him, it sounded like it had come full circle in the amount of time that I had originally written it in. While I agreed with him that the ‘song’ itself was done after just that verse, there was a whole other verse that I totally forgot I wrote until I stumbled across it the other day in “random shit” folder. So for those that care, here’s what would have been the second half to the song “Company Of Men” had I not forgotten that it existed. I guess it would be considered an alternate verse? Cool.

There is a hanging jaw.

There is a crowd in awe

Of your accomplished hands.

You are above the law.

You could have changed it all.

You could just take your pick.

Or you could build a wall

Brick by brick.

But you’re a better man,

Better than me.

And you speak real slow

Until we all agree.

I could have been your friend.

I would have shined your shoes.

I’ve got a master plan.

I’ve got a lot to prove.
